Lingual Arch Retainer

The lingual arch retainer is used as a holding appliance, which maintains arch length and prevents mesial tipping of the molars.

What is a Lingual Arch Retainer?

A lower lingual holding arch is a fixed appliance made of two bands on the lower first molars, joined by a stiff wire that runs along the lingual side of the lower arch and sits just behind the lower incisors. It is used as a passive space maintainer to preserve arch length and stop the lower molars drifting or tipping mesially. We make lingual arches to your prescription for orthodontic practices across the UK.

When Is A Lingual Arch Retainer Needed?

How Does a Lingual Arch Retainer Work?

The lingual arch is a passive appliance. Bands on the lower first molars are connected by a stiff wire that follows the lingual contour of the arch. Because the wire links both sides, it stops the molars moving or tipping forward and keeps arch length and perimeter stable while the permanent teeth erupt. Send us a digital scan (iTero, 3Shape, Medit, Dexis or Owandy) or an impression by post, with your design requirements on the prescription.
