We make them from intraoral scans, using models printed in our in-house 3D printing centre, or from posted impressions. What’s the difference between Essix, vacuum-formed and pressure-formed retainers?
All three names describe clear thermoplastic retainers formed over a model of the arch. “Essix” is the common trade name, and “vacuum-formed” and “pressure-formed” describe the forming method. We pressure form ours for close adaptation.
Can you make a retainer from a scan?
Yes. Send the scan from iTero, 3Shape, Medit, Dexis or Owandy; we print the model in-house and form the retainer on it.
How much does an Essix retainer cost from your lab?
Lab fees for clear Essix retainers depend on the case, whether you send a scan or an impression, and whether it’s a single arch or a pair.
